The restoration of the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal

The Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, a jewel of Quebec and Canadian heritage and a cultural symbol since 1829, is undergoing a historic phase: major restoration work to preserve its unique architecture and ensure its perennity for future generations.

As the Basilica's bicentennial approaches, the Notre-Dame Basilica Foundation has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign aiming to raise $50 million. These funds will be used to restore essential elements, such as:

  • Exterior facades and sculpted stones
  • Stained glass windows and historical frescoes
  • Heritage woodwork and roofs
  • Archive conservation
  • And much more

Every contribution is a concrete step towards preserving an iconic Montreal, Quebec, and Canadian monument.

The work is carried out by La Fabrique, a non-profit organization, and is not eligible for government subsidies. This means that funding for the restoration project relies entirely on contributions from the public, visitors, parishioners, and patrons. Cultural events, such as concerts and guided tours, also contribute to fundraising.
